BIO

Mou Banerjee is a New Jersey-based Indian-American visual artist. She was born in Kolkata,
India. She earned a Masters in Botany at the University of Calcutta, India. She earned a BFA in Sculpture at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers. She uses interdisciplinary materials and methods in her sculptures. Her works predominantly show bright and vibrant colors and repetitive forms. Having knowledge and interest in Biology, the artist often uses organic forms in her sculptures. Most of her works are closely associated with her personal
experiences and her reaction to social issues. She aims to communicate social messages to the
common people through her art. However, she does not consider herself a social activist, rather she
hopes to inoculate the possibilities of activism in ordinary people.

Her diasporic life has allowed her to absorb elements of various origins.  Being an American female artist from a culturally rich Indian/ Bengali heritage enabled her to bring in a lineage of colorful and vibrant vibes for fine arts. She looks forward to the fusion of her ethnicity and art school skills in her future artwork.
